Adam Stroup: Fight to Win “Super Heroes” Pre-Fight Interview

Adam Stroup

The unbeaten record of Adam Stroup was about to be over. His professional debut, at the last Fight to Win MMA card was not going well. Fans were worried during the second round as his opponent, TJ Nunnaley, brought down heavy blows to Stroup’s head while pinning him to the mat. Then the third round came Stroup ended the fight in less than a minute. It was a stunning turn around and something that put the still undefeated Factory X fighter on the ‘must-see’ list of all fans. Now he’s coming to Super Heroes to fight in what may be the most talked about match of the night against Todd Meredith.

The first question everyone wants answered by the towering six foot three inch Stroup is; What does he think about the hype leading into this fight?

“I am absolutely shocked at the amount of attention this fight is getting. You’ve got two guys, one with a 1-0 record and the other with a 1-1 record, and you would think we were the only fight on the card,” Stroup said…

Ultimate Reno Combat 33: Watch the Live Internet PPV HERE!

Ultimate Reno Combat 33 5.18.2012

Ultimate Reno Combat 33 takes place May 18, 2012 at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. Northern Nevada’s premier cage fighting event returns as “Ultimate Reno Combat 33″ premiers with a 14-bout card, with 3 titles on the line at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.

In the main event, Brad Robasciotti (3-1) fights Brandon Costa (4-1) for the URC Light Heavyweight Title. The fans demanded it and now they have it. This is an immediate rematch as Robasciotti was victorious in the last bout defeating Costa via TKO in round 4 and winning the title from him. With such a quick turnaround both fighters will not have much time to change their games up so expect this bout to be another wall to wall war. The first fight was back and forth with Robasciotti ultimately getting his hand raised at the end, but many feel the fight was stopped too early, hence the rematch. Both fighters will be looking to make a definitive statement in this bout, so don’t blink.

The co-main event, Randall Wallace (2-0) battles Anthony Hernandez (4-0) for the URC Middleweight Championship. This is for the vacant 185 lb title and both fighters come into the bout undefeated. Someone is walking away with gold, while the other is walking away with the first loss of his career. For Wallace, he is a heavy puncher who has finished both of his fights in the first round. He will look to connect with one of his bombs early and make it a quick night. Hernandez is a fighter that can end things with his hands, but also has the stamina to go the distance and outwork his opponent for a decision. Since it’s a 5 round fight, Hernandez could look to take Wallace into deep waters and into the later rounds and then from there try to stop him…

Joey Banks: Fight to Win “Super Heroes” Pre-Fight Interview

Joey Banks

Is it confidence or hubris that propels Grudge’s Joey Banks into his professional debut fight, on a week’s notice, at Fight to Win MMA’s Super Heroes card on May 19? Perhaps neither, as a man with this much success and this much mental strength may need nothing more than his own burning past to push him to success.

He’ll be facing the very tough Jeremy Martinez in a fight that has many fans wondering exactly what Banks knows that they don’t. It is almost unheard of for a fighter of his caliber to suddenly step in for a professional debut with this little time to prepare. But fans aren’t complaining and neither is Banks.

“I’ve had five fights that have fallen though and I haven’t fought in a year. The thought process is if I don’t take a fight right now, when am I going to get another one?” Banks said when asked why he had agreed to the fight.

Other than his own desire to be in the ring again, his constant training has helped prepare him for a moment exactly like this…

J. Keven Hernandez: Fight to Win “Super Heroes” Pre-Fight Interview

J Keven Hernandez

J. Keven Hernandez walks out to his fights to the song Bleed it Out by Linkin Park, whose opening lyric is “Here we go for the hundredth time.” At Fight to Win MMA’s Super Heroes card on May 19, the lyrics may prove prolific if we see yet another first round victory by what many consider to be the hottest 145 pound prospect in the state. The battle won’t be easy though, as Hernandez takes on the very tough, Dominick Garcow

“I never really know what’s going to happen. Dominick is a tough dude, he’s got a hard head. I’m hoping he’s coming to put on a show with me. I want to see a big battle like I see in the UFC. You see these great three round and five round fights that are historic and you just want to have that for yourself,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez, who trains out of Zingano BJJ, has become a topic of wide spread conversation across the state after racking up four first round victories with his fights averaging out to a length of a little less than two minutes each. The success and tenacity he has shown in dispatching fighters had earned him a spot on almost every Fight to Win card, and a big target on his back…

Matt Simms: Fight to Win “Super Heroes” Pre-Fight Interview

Matt Simms

It’s been since July 23 of 2011 that we’ve seen ‘Malignant’ Matt Simms in an MMA ring. On May 19, at Fight to Win’s Super Heroes, he returns to face Alvino Montoya. But in the words of LL Cool J, make sure you don’t call this fight one thing in particular.

“I don’t consider this a comeback at all. I’ve never stopped training, never since I beat Nate Johnson. I did go up a weight class, and I wanted to put that healthy weight on. So that took some time as well. I never thought I wouldn’t fight again, I just had some focus that needed to be on the business side of the gym,” Simms said.

Simms is a huge part of the success of the Colorado gym, Zingano BJJ. Much of his time off has been spent helping to grow that team that includes such young up and comers as J. Keven Hernandez (also fighting on the Super Heroes card).

But has the time off slowed Simms down at all?

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to do both but truthfully I never got off of my training regime. I’m at the gym twice a day, daily. Even when I’m not fighting, I’m in training,” Simms said…

Lauren Sugihara: Fight to Win “Super Heroes” Pre-Fight Interview

Lauren Sugihara

“The beginning of the fight, leading into the start, is the hardest moment of my life. But once I get hit, something switches in my head and that’s when I start going all out and start having fun. It’s a pretty intense feeling and I’m pretty sure she has that feeling as well and I guess we’ll see who wants it more,” she said.

Sugihara, who trains out of 3-D Elite and Muay Thai of Colorado, has added new conditioning and a new nutrition plan to her camp. But she thinks that the support of one very important person may be what pushes her over the top.

“He’s been great and very supportive,” she said in reference to F2W promoter Seth Daniels, “When I don’t want to get up and go to the gym, on days that I just feel too beat up, he helps me get out there.”

Daniel’s unique brand of motivation has helped many in Colorado MMA find that edge in whatever their pursuits…
